Investing in Time is the Key to a Happy Life

by Charly Mann

Time is the most valuable resource we have. Every moment we waste is lost forever. Money can be replaced, time can not. Happy people invest in their time by learning and growing to be better people. They do not consume time by wasting it on anger, worry, television, social media, or being judgmental.

When one is young time often seems to move very slowly. It is not until we are older or really enjoying something that time really flies. One day we are young, the next we are gray haired and thinking about retirement. I remember my father telling me years after he retired at 67 that it seemed like yesterday that he started his job. A major lesson of life is to be aware of the great value of time, and understand that using it wisely and appreciating as much of it as possible, is the essence of a happy life.

How To Simplify Your Life and Find Happiness

by Charly Mann

Happiness is not derived from having things, but from not having them. The easiest way to simplify your life is to eliminate the unnecessary. This will unburden you from most wants and distractions. You will become wise and happy when you are able to say you have enough. The easiest road to contentment is eliminating material desires. It is the wonderful things you have that money can’t buy that really make you wealthy. When you spend money on something you don’t need you are stealing money from yourself. Seek elegance rather than luxury and refinement instead of ostentatiousness. There is nothing more sophisticated than simplicity. Most people go into debt buying things they do not really need to impress people they really do not like.

To simplify your life eliminate endeavors and get rid of things that prevent you from doing what you really love. Single-task all your activities. It is far less stressful and more productive. Have routines to keep your life simple and organized. Fill your day with simple pleasures focusing on quality over quantity and expense. Keep your house neat and organized. Clutter is distracting and stressful. Reduce the time you are connected to the television and the computer. It is too easy to have our free time dominated by a video screen of some kind. And finally spend less time shopping for things you do not really need. People have made shopping an escape and leisure activity. In truth it is a hollow pursuit and an expensive habit.

How To Have A Miraculous Life

by Charly Mann

Do you believe in miracles? A miracle is an extraordinary occurrence that defies logic. In the United States 85% of women and 73% of men believe in miracles. I think there is a lot going on around us that is miraculous that often fails to astonish us because we are not self-aware. Many of us have lost our sense of wonder. As Samuel Parkes Cadman said, "we can see a thousand miracles around us every day. What is more supernatural than an egg yolk turning into a chicken?" Indeed the miracles of nature do not seem to be miracles because we see them so often. If you had never seen a flower until today, you would probably consider its beauty and existence miraculous.

How To Make Your Life Wonderful

Take twelve whole months.
Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy.
Make them just as fresh and clean as possible.
Now cut each month into 28, 30 or 31 parts,
but don't make up the whole batch at once.
Prepare it one day at a time out of these ingredients:
Mix well into each day one part of faith,
one part of patience, one part of courage,
and one part of work.
Add to each day one part of hope,
faithfulness, generosity, and kindness.
Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation,
and one good deed.
Season the whole with a dash of good spirits,
a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play,
and a cupful of good humor.
Pour all of this into a vessel of love.
Cook thoroughly over radiant joy,
garnish with a smile,
and serve with quietness, unselfishness,
and cheerfulness.
Enjoy!!!

The Best Advice for a Happy and Successful Life

One-half of life is luck; the other half is discipline - and that's the important half, for without discipline you wouldn't know what to do with luck.

-- Carl Zuckmeyer

Goals are a means to an end, not the ultimate purpose of our lives. They are simply a tool to concentrate our focus and move us in a direction. The only reason we really pursue goals is to cause ourselves to expand and grow. Achieving goals by themselves will never make us happy in the long term; it’s who you become, as you overcome the obstacles necessary to achieve your goals, that can give you the deepest and most long-lasting sense of fulfillment.

-- Anthony Robbins

If you love life, life will love you back.

-- Arthur Rubinstein

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think of you.

-- John Wooden

All The Things You Should Ask God For

Sculpture of God in Gold

May God bless you with discomfort with easy answers, half-truths and superficial relationships, so you will live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression and exploitation of people so you will work for justice, equality and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war, so you will reach out your hand to comfort them and change their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with the foolishness to think that you can make a difference in the world, so you will do the things which others tell you cannot be done.

About Me

Ever since I was very young I have been intrigued with how one could live happily ever after like the characters I read about in fairy tales. As a child I noticed most of the adults I was exposed to were often anxious and angry, and only a very few seemed to be calm and happy. By the time I was a teenager I was scouring philosophy and psychology books looking for instructions on how to have a marvelous life. I also began questioning scores of adults I would encounter about their philosophy on life and what they thought one needed to do to be perfectly contented. In 1967, at the age of 17, I started a daily journal that compiled all the information I acquired that day on the subject. Today that journal includes three dozen large notebooks and more than 3,400 pages on my hard drive.

I have had a marvelous life thus far - most of it incredibly happy, healthy, and successful. Since 1968 I have also tracked how happy and successful I was in the previous year. Through the end of 2013, each year has been significantly better than the year before. I believe much of this can be attributed on what I learned and implemented in my own life about achieving good health, success, and happiness. As I mature and learn more my methodology for making my life great has changed a lot. I achieved enormous financial success before I was 25, which contributed greatly to my enjoyment of life for almost a decade, but even before I was 30 I found that there were things far more important than wealth that made my life great and I keep discovering more. I have had financial independence since I was very young, but almost all the joys and pleasure I now derive from life are free or cost very little.

On Uplifting Visions I share insights that I have gained from my own experience, observation, and a life of research on attaining happiness, health, and success.
